Conference: Promoting Parental Skills in Europe

Promoting Parental Skills in Europe – Instruments and Effects

Promoting parental skills means to strengthen families! Which instruments, however, can support parents effectively? What did other countries in Europe experience while implementing programmes to promote parental skills?
To discuss these questions and to exchange experiences with different approaches in the organisation of parental support and their effectiveness were the objectives of the international conference on “Promoting Parental Skills in Europe – Instruments and Effects” in Berlin on 11 and 12 February 2010.

On behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth the project team Frankfurt of the “Observatory for Sociopolitical Developments in Europe” welcomed participants from 20 countries. The event found great approval from experts in Germany and abroad: 120 experts representing authorities on national and regional level, organisations providing services in parental support as well as experts from academia discussed ways to strengthen the competences of parents.
